## Editorial contract (why you can trust the claims)
- Every application example is tagged **[shipping]** (confirmed in products), **[demonstrated]** (trials/demos), or **[illustrative]** (plausible, not confirmed).
- Vendor figures ("4–5× stronger", "2–8× shear") are labeled **vendor claim** wherever they appear.
- The only verified coded-magnet customer is **NASA** (Prandtl-M glider twist-release, five successful releases 2021–22). Tesla / Home Depot / US Navy / MDA logos on polymagnet.com are treated as unverified.
- No programmable-magnet market-size figure is cited anywhere — none credible exists. Market context uses named sources only (MarketsandMarkets, Grand View, Persistence, IDTechEx, IEA).
- The honest physics: coded magnets trade far-field reach for near-field intensity (exponential decay; <2 mm working gaps). No levitation (Earnshaw); coding redistributes energy, never adds it.

## Non-obvious context
- "Coded/programmable magnet" = Correlated Magnetics Research's Polymagnet®: one NdFeB piece re-magnetized with a printed pattern of ~1 mm N/S "maxels" whose spatial correlation defines the force curve.
- Simple multipole (ABS encoder rings, MagSafe/Qi2 ring, fridge strips) predates and vastly out-ships correlation-coded parts; the site keeps that distinction visible.
